Allaire Village to host flea market

The Historic Village at Allaire will present a gigantic flea market fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 31 (rain date Aug. 1) in the show field at Allaire State Park, Route 524 (Atlantic Avenue), Wall Township.

Entrance to the state park is $5 per car. Admission to the flea market is free, as is admission to the village and historic buildings. Vendors will display old and new items of all types and food vendors will be at several locations in the park selling cold drinks, hot dogs, hamburgers and funnel cakes.

Proceeds from the flea market will benefit the historic and educational programs presented at the Historic Village at Allaire by the nonprofit organization Allaire Village Inc.

Patrons of the flea market may wish to visit the restored 1830s iron manufacturing community known as the Howell Iron Works where authentically clad museum interpreters and artisans, and craft demonstrators such as blacksmiths and carpenters, present the story of the historic buildings and the people who lived and worked there 174 years ago.

Allaire Village Inc. is licensed by the state of New Jersey to operate the 40-acre, state-owned Historic Village at Allaire, site of James P. Allaire’s Howell Iron Works Company in the 1830s.

Allaire Village Inc. receives no state funding toward the educational programming presented throughout the year, but is strongly supported through private donations, membership fees, fund-raising events and patronage of its retail stores.

Allaire Village Inc. received an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State. In addition, funding for its historical events is made possible in part to a grant from the OceanFirst Foundation. For more information, call 732- 919-3500 or visit www.allairevillage.org.
