Monmouth County Park System packed with events throughout July

In honor of Parks and Recreation Month, the Monmouth County Park System invites area residents to the following free activities planned for July:

• “Smocking Demonstration,” 1-3 p.m. July 10 at Historic Longstreet Farm. See this delicate craft in action.

• “ Sea Turtles,” 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 10-11 at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center. Hear firsthand our naturalist’s experience with sea turtles and conservation efforts in Costa Rica.

• “ Threshing Demonstration” noon-2 p.m. July 10-11 at Historic Longstreet Farm. See wheat threshed the way it would have been done in the 1890s.

• “ Blacksmith Demonstration,” 1-3 p.m. July 11 at Historic Longstreet Farm. Come see what the blacksmith is making in his workshop.

• “ Death Valley,” 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 17-18 at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center. Discover how Death Valley got its name and what life is like in the California/Nevada desert. Slide shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

• Music Man Rich Marzec, 1-3 p.m. July 18 at Historic Longstreet Farm. Hear history come alive through music as Rich Marzec plays tunes from the turn of the century.

• “Endangered Species,” 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 24-25 at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center. Learn about New Jersey’s endangered species.

• “Butterflies,” 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 31-Aug. 1 at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center. Learn about and test your butterfly knowledge.
