In honor of Parks and Recreation Month, the Monmouth County Park System invites area residents to the following free activities planned for July:

• “ Above and Below – The Mechanics of the Mill,” 9:30-11:30 a.m. July 17 at Historic Walnford. Visitors age 14 and up are invited to explore all four levels of the gristmill and see how the machinery is cleaned, adjusted and lubricated. Wear old clothes and sturdy shoes. No fee, but registration required. Call 609-259-6275.

• “Oh Freedom!” exhibit, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Aug. 30 at Historic Walnford. This traveling exhibit from the New Jersey DEP captures the stories of African American soldiers who fought during the Revolutionary War.
