MILLSTONE — A blaze spread from a vehicle into a Bergen Mills Road home on Feb. 24.

The Millstone Township Fire Department and Englishtown Fire Department responded to 4 Bergen Mills Road at 7:01 a.m. for a vehicle fire with exposure, according to Dave Markunas, chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners.

“As units began to respond, additional information was received reporting multiple calls on the fire and that the residence was now on fire,” Markunas said.

When Englishtown’s Deputy Chief Tim Kirkland arrived at the scene, he confirmed that a vehicle fire spread into the residence. Additional mutual aid was dispatched from Monroe Fire District No. 2 and Manalapan Fire Company No. 1, according to Markunas.

“The fire did extend into the home but the damage was limited to the kitchen area where the garage was connected to the house,” Markunas said. “The car was totally destroyed by the fire. The fire also did extensive damage to the garage.”

When Millstone Fire Chief Jim Carbin arrived at the scene, he requested additional mutual aid and established command. Millstone firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the fire, according to Markunas.

Mutual aid departments arrived and assisted with fire attack and ventilation. Other mutual aid companies that assisted at the scene or provided coverage were Freehold Independent, Freehold Borough, Jackson Mills, Hightstown, and Hope Fire Company, according to Markunas.

The Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Millstone Township Fire Prevention Bureau investigated the fire. The Millstone First Aid Squad and the New Jersey State Police were also on scene.

      No injuries were reported.
