      Open Door appreciates support given at Thanksgiving
            On behalf of the board of trustees, volunteers and clients of Freehold Area Open Door, I would like to thank the community for their generous outpouring of donations for Thanksgiving. On Nov. 22 many of our regular volunteers were joined by two dozen students to pack 419 dinner boxes, which fed 1,500 individuals.

            Veterans of World War II are a fading commodity. I am a veteran of that war and fought in the Battle of the Ardennes, also known as the Battle of the Bulge. I was born in Germany and, as a Jew, had to leave to save my life.

      Bills in state Legislature could have unwanted results
            There are two bills in the state Legislature dealing with foreclosures that could severely impact our communities. The first proposed law, A-3246, requires that the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) "create a program to assist municipalities in purchasing foreclosed properties for affordable house use.
