      Get involved during Hunger Action Month
            September is national Hunger Action Month, which is a nationwide call-to-action effort to mobilize people everywhere to get involved with ending hunger in America. One in eight Americans struggles with hunger. That's why The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Feeding America are asking everyone to take action during Hunger Action Month.

      Don't let an AARP member think for you
            Iam a member of AARP. The recent letter by the so-called "Volunteer Grassroots Coordinator AARP" appalled me. It was my impression that AARP did not have a stand in the debate on the over 1,000-page House bill regarding health care reform. If they have one, what is it? I cannot find a position on AARP's website.

      Parents can take steps to combat obesity in children
            During September, which is deemed "Go Healthy Month" by the American Heart Association, I encourage my fellow school administrators, coaches, parents and community leaders to take charge of the health of our youth. Nearly one in three children and youth in the United States are overweight or obese, according to the American Heart Association.
