      Downtown is not going out of business
            As a 12-year member of the Allentown Business Community Association, I was dismayed by the recent article in another local publication about the Unique Treasures store going out of business. The article focused on what is certainly a sad decision for the owners, but portrayed a dismal outlook for our business community. I strongly say it's not so!

            As alluded to by former Greater Media Newspapers executive editor Greg Bean in a recent column, the New Jersey Foundation for Open Government has taken the lead in a number of issues to increase transparency, accountability, honesty and democracy in government at all levels by defending and expanding public access to government records and meetings.

      Help raise awareness about animal welfare in factory farms
            On Sept. 20, there will be a Farm Sanctuary Walk for Farm Animals in Princeton. These walks are held nationwide each autumn around World Farm Animals Day to raise awareness about animal welfare issues associated with factory farming. This year there are over 50 walks scheduled across the country and thousands of people will participate.
