      Horse Park will host trail ride competition
            The fourth annual Judged Trail Ride will be held Sept. 13 at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown. Riders will be judged on their skill and ability to guide their horses on a two-five mile course with natural obstacles, such as a bridge, water, hills, logs, gates and mailboxes.

      Bird watchers invited on walk around lake
            Bird watchers, ages 15 and older, are invited on a walk of Perrineville Lake Park to look for fall migrants. A naturalist will accompany the walk, which is intended for beginners as well as experienced birders. Binoculars will be available, but attendees can bring their own.

      Musikgarten to start at Cornerstone Music
            Cornerstone Music Studios at Millstone will begin its fall session of Musikgarten, group music and movement classes for children ages birth to age 5. Classes will begin the week of Sept. 6 and run for 11 classes, ending the week of Nov. 15.

      Driving clinic at Horse Park slated
            The Garden State Horse and Carriage Society will host an educational driving clinic at the Horse Park of New Jersey, located in Upper Freehold, on Sept. 28. The clinicians include Robin Groves and Lore Homer. Spots for Lore Homer are available at $70 for a 50-minute time frame. Beginners are welcome.             The Veterans Coalition, Millstone Post 03, will hold its monthly meeting 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at Millstone Elks Lodge, Burnt Tavern Road.             Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Monmouth County and the Jersey Shore Running Club will team up for CASA's annual 5K race and fun walk Aug. 29 at Joe Palaia Park, Ocean Township (rain or shine). Registration will open at 8 a.m., and the run/walk will begin at 9 a.m.

      Fall bowling program registration under way
            Millstone's Recreation Department is sponsoring a 12-week bowling program for boys and girls ages 5-14, and a 12-week program for adults. The programs will take place at Country Lanes on Route 33 in Manalapan. One youth program will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting Oct. 1, and one will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Saturdays starting Sept. 26.

            The Allentown Lions will host a free family movie night at Byron Johnson Park in Upper Freehold at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 with a feature presentation of the movie "Coraline." All community members are invited to come out with a blanket or lawn chair.

            The Allentown Business Community Association is having Passport Shopping in Allentown. Shoppers must visit the participating shops and collect at least 10 different stamps by Aug. 30 to be entered in the final drawing. No purchase is necessary.

      Used and new tack sale at Turkey Trot
            The second annual "Used and New Tack Sale" will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Horse Park of New Jersey. Admission is free. The event will be held on Turkey Trot day, a Horse Park fundraiser. Table spots are available for sale by calling 732-505-9700.

      New dance classes to begin this fall
            The fall session of "Dancing by the Peddie Lake," offering instruction in swing, fox trot, waltz and Latin dancing, will be held at 112 Etra Road, Hightstown. Classes will begin Sept. 11 for the fourweek session and Oct. 22 for five weeks.
