Capacity crowd drives fundraising efforts at SBOANJ golf outing

UPPER FREEHOLD — A capacity turnout of 135 turned out, driving support for the Horsemen's Benevolent Fund through their participation in the 14th annual SBOANJ Golf Outing at the Gambler Ridge Golf Course in Cream Ridge on July 13.

The golfers and guests received their awards over a prime rib dinner at the conclusion of their round of golf.

The Del Cote Stable's Cote Keim, Brad Horner, Jeff Schultz and Chris Almeida were the winning foursome, each receiving a $100 gift certificate to the Cheesecake Factory. The quartet also captured the Standardbred Retirement Foundation golf tournament last month and plans to pursue the New Jersey harness racing "Triple Crown" in the Hambletonian Charity Golf Tournament on Aug. 17 at the Hackensack Golf Club.

Honors for men's longest drive went to Chris Riley, who played with the team from silver sponsor Katz/Pierz Inc.

The putting contest was won by Art Yeranian of silver sponsor LaFerla Group-UBS Financial Services.

The Closest to the Pin Award went to Gary Burger, who played with silver sponsor Sterns & Weinroth.

Most Honest Team, which won a gift card for a foursome at Gambler Ridge, was made up of John Hynes, Frank VanWie, Jim Hogan and Carlos Lachapelle. VanWie, Hynes and Hogan also won this last year.

The 50/50 winner was Carol Luchento of Freehold.

Joie de Vie Farm of Jobstown won the drawing for the Sport Trainer Jog Cart, donated by Al Eggert of Pennsbury Enterprises, Penndel, Pa. All the entries' fees for that drawing benefited the Horsemen's Benevolent Fund.

Everyone admired but no one took home the 2009 Mercedes-Benz, which was the holein one prize, courtesy of Prestige Motors of Paramus.

Silver sponsors were Meadowlands Racetrack, Newport Graphics/John DiSomma, Freehold Raceway, Clarksburg Inn, LaFerla Group-UBS Financial Services, SunRx, Sterns & Weinroth, Loomis Insurance, Katz/Pierz Inc., Equine Racing Enterprises/ Ross Croghan, Valley High Stables/ William B. Weaver III, Joie de Vie Farm and New Jersey Community Bank/Dick Kadish.

Bronze sponsors were Northwood Bloodstock/ Robert Boni and Morgan Stanley.

Horseman Publishing Co., Nick Salenetri, Dr. George Schmidt and Irv & Vic Sportswear were patron sponsors.

The event was co-chaired by SBOANJ directors Eddie Razzetti and Bob Baggitt Sr.
