      Allentown High School's top two make the grade

      Allentown High School valedictorian Kevin Predmore will be attending Duke University in Durham, N.C., in the fall after a distinguished high school career.

      Kevin Predmore Kevin Predmore He graduated with a 4.31 GPA and scored 2250 on the SAT (800 Math; 730 Critical Reading; 720 Writing; and 800 Math II)

      His extracurricular activities included National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society (secretary, 11th grade), English Honor Society (president, 12th grade), Math League, Science League, Academic Team (captain, 11th and 12th grades) and lacrosse.

      He said that some of his most experiences at AHS were Senior Day, beating Notre Dame High School at lacrosse, the Junior/Senior Prom, seeing Mrs. Melinda Reed after she came back from her leave.

      His favorite subjects were Algebra 2 and AP Statistics with Mrs. Melinda Reed

      Community service is also an important part of Kevin's impressive résumé. He is a volunteer on Millstone Township First Aid Squad and with the Rose of Sharon Food Pantry.

      As far as his future plans are concerned, Kevin said he plans to major in biomedical engineering at Duke with a career goal of starting his own company, "specifically to design better artificial limbs for soldiers that lose their own in combat."

      Caitlin McCarthy Caitlin McCarthy Kevin lives in Millstone with his parents, Norma and Bill Predmore, and sisters Kelly, 19; Jorie, 15; and Haley, 11.

      After a successful high school academic career, Caitlin McCarthy, Allentown High School's salutatorian, will attend Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., this fall, where she is considering majoring in biochemistry or possibly international relations. Her academic achievements are

      noteworthy. They include six AP classes, many honors classes, 2000 on the SAT, and an approximately 4.23 GPA. Her favorite subjects were AP Biology and AP English with Cheryl Chambliss.

      Outside of her rigorous academic schedule, Caitlin found time to be a part of the Half and Half a cappella group, the Spring Musical, National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She also had the opportunity to visit France and Spain through the Travel Club.

      Caitlin said one of her favorite memories is the last senior lunch of the school year, which entailed a "huge cafeteria dance party."

      She said she was also proud to be a part of those "standing up for student voices through fighting random drug testing."

      As a volunteer in the community, Caitlin founded and served as president of the Mercer County Quixote Quest Club, a teen-driven volunteer club, "where members commit themselves to one volunteer site," she said. She also volunteered at Home- Front for two years, where she tutored disadvantaged children from the Trenton area.

      One memorable community service venture was a six-day Appalachian Trail hike, where volunteers performed some new trail construction and preserved "some of the old trail damaged by erosion and human contact," Caitlin said.

      Right now, her career goals include working on international health policy — "maintaining good quality of health for people around the world," she said.

      Caitlin lives in Allentown with her parents, Mary and Michael McCarthy, and sister Alison, 15.
