Homes for dogs, cats and kittens needed
      The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) is seeking foster homes and permanent homes for dogs, cats and kittens. Fostering is approximately a two-month commitment. The shelter also urges current pet owners to have their pets spayed/neutered. MCSPCA offers low-cost spay/neutering to the public.

Historic Walnford to host gristmill demos
      Experience the ups and downs, rumble and shake of the operating 19th century gristmill at Historic Walnford in Crosswicks Creek Park, Upper Freehold, 1-4 p.m. on weekends through November. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how corn was processed in the late 1800s.

      The Fort Monmouth Historical Office has announced the debut of its hardcover "History of Army Communications and Electronics at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, 1917-2007." The book chronicles 90 years of communications electronics achievements carried out at Fort Monmouth.

Freedom Fest Fair seeks horse exhibitors
      The third annual Freedom Fest Fair is set for July 7-12 at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Upper Freehold. The fair is now taking applications for horse exhibitions and breed demonstrations. Exhibitions in the indoor arena will take place 5-10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Exhibitions in the main pavilion arena will take place 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Millstone farm market open July Fourth
      The Millstone Township Community Farm Market will be open Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jersey corn, blueberries, farm fresh eggs, local honey, peaches, squash, herbs and more are available. The market will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 24 at Wagner Farm Park, located at the corner of Baird and Woodville roads in Millstone.

CASA annual 5K race/walk Aug. 29
      Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Monmouth County and the Jersey Shore Running Club will team up for CASA's annual 5K race and fun walk Aug. 29 at Joe Palaia Park, Ocean Township (rain or shine). Registration will open at 8 a.m., and the run/walk will begin at 9 a.m.
