Resident appalled by letter about horse community

The anonymous letter circulating around Millstone that was anti-horse people appalled me.

After reading this letter, I could understand why it was anonymous so no one had to own up to his or her ignorance. Consequently, I would like to emphasize the following facts:

      • Christopher Reeves suffered an unfortunate accident while participating in a cross-country event that carries inherent risks. He was not injured as a result of a trail ride in the woods.

      • There are grant monies available on the state and federal levels for those who are willing to take the time and effort to apply. If an organization receives a grant, they are required to be accountable that the money is spent in accordance with their grant request.

      • I have volunteered through the Monmouth County Park trail system during which time trees are not indiscriminately cut down in order to preserve the natural setting. On the other hand, I have seen developers randomly destroying the natural habitat to make it easier for their construction vehicles.

      • Money spent on developing trails did not come from municipal money. It was the result of the hard work of volunteers through fundraising efforts and the grant.

What really infuriates me, people move into a new town and want to change everything to be like it was from where they cam from. Whether it is from New York, Staten Island, Long Island or any other urban/highly developed suburban community. Why move in the first place or why not move to a similar environment if that is what you desire? I really resent the attitude, "I'm here now and I am going to take over."

Also, in closing, horse manure is not toxic waste. It is biodegradable and enriches the soil. I would certainly rather breath in any minor odor from horse manure than the toxic fumes emitted by the many motorized vehicles that speed past my house 24 hours a day.
