Run into the twilight
UFRSD Education Foundation hosts 5K
The Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation invites the public to get off their couches and away from the TV for a little while on June 6. Community members can join their neighbors in the foundation's first Community Twilight Challenge. The 5K run/walk and one-mile kids' fun run will begin and end at Allentown High School. "Not an athlete? Not a runner? Not a problem," James Derasmo, president of the foundation, said. "Our first Community Twilight Challenge offers something for everyone no matter what kind of physical shape you're in. And the best part is the proceeds will benefit the children in our community through the foundation's grants program." The Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation is a nonprofit coalition of the private, business, and civic sectors, dedicated to promoting quality education by establishing, supporting and enhancing programs of the Upper Freehold Regional School District. The one-mile fun run will begin at 5 p.m. The second event, the 5K run/walk, will begin at 6 p.m. Check-in begins at 4 p.m. Participants will journey through the Allentown High School campus, down Route 539 to Walnford Road and back to Allentown High School. Following the event, participants can relax with refreshments and listen to music played by a live DJ. All pre-registered participants will receive a Community Twilight Challenge T-shirt and gift bag. Winners will receive awards and a special prize will be given to the largest team or group completing the course. Before May 15, registration for the fun run is $10 and for the 5K is $20. Participants should visit www.raceforum.com/ctc to register online. To register by mail, participants will need to visit www.bestrace.com and go to "Upcoming Races" to download a registration form. Paper registration forms and checks should be mailed to UFREF, P.O. Box 109, Allentown, NJ 08501. "Pre-registration is not required," Kathy Cary, chair of the Community Twilight Challenge, said "People are welcome to sign up on the day of the event, however Tshirts and gift bags will only be available while supplies last." Cary added that people who do not preregister and want to participate should plan to arrive no later than 4 p.m. After May 15, and on the day of the race, registration will cost $15 for the fun run and $25 for the 5K. Sponsors of the event include Gold's Gym, The Goddard School, Road id, Certified Public Accountant Edward Lempka, JoeMax Telecom, DJ Nebbs, Kudrick Chiropractic and Richard Levandowski, M.D. For more information or to be a sponsor, contact Cary at kathyd.cary@gmail.com.
