      Women deserve much more recognition
            I really dislike Women's History Month. Perhaps that's a surprising statement coming from someone who's worked for 15 years in the League of Women Voters, but it's true. Carving out one month (March) to remember the monumental achievements of women highlights the fact that these achievements are still largely ignored by the people who write and teach history.

            Police reports filed after Rihanna's beating at the hands of Chris Brown paint a vivid picture of what happens when the "cycle of violence" is allowed to run its course. Unfortunately, the brutal acts that landed the famous couple in the news are going on among "regular" people every day.

      Allentown residents need to be vigilant
            Yesterday our house was robbed. This was done in broad daylight around 11:15 a.m. on a Saturday morning. The back door was kicked in. The thief was looking for money and jewelry. He didn't get much of either.

      No trout left behind in New Jersey classrooms
            Nothing beats dirt and water for getting kids interested in nature. The state's "Trout in the Classroom" program is a great hands-on example of how kids can learn about the environment and how it connects to their own homes and communities.

      'Convenience charge' is not saving New Jersey money
            I recently received my New Jersey automobile registration renewal form via mail. I was given the option of going to a local New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) office and interact with a clerk for the renewal. My second option was to fill out the paperwork and send it and a check to the NJMVC office in Trenton.
