      Registration for kindergarten to start
            The Millstone Township School District will hold kindergarten and preschool registration for the 2009-2010 school year 5-7 p.m. March 2 and 4-6 p.m. March 4. Registrants must provide an original birth certificate with a raised state seal, four current proofs of residency, an immunization report and if applicable, child custody or guardianship papers.

      Perrineville Jewish Center to host author
            The Perrineville Jewish Center, 855 Perrineville Road, Millstone, will host a brunch and presentation by Dr. Vera Goodkin, author of the memoir "In Sunshine and in Shadow: We Remember Them" at 10:30 a.m. March 15. The memoir tells of Goodkin's coming of age during the Nazi occupation.

      Art contest to focus on parents and teens
            The New Jersey Department of Human Services (NJDHS) invites teens across the state to participate in its 14th annual Teen Media Contest sponsored by the Division of Family Development, focusing on parental responsibility. The statewide contest is open to New Jersey middle school and high school students.

            The MOMS Club of Millstone Township will hold its next monthly meeting 10 a.m. March 12. The group will be discussing low- or no-cost monthly calendar activities for all age groups, ranging from newborns and up.

            A three-day introductory course on disaster animal response training is being offered April 24-26 at Rick's Saddle Shop, Cream Ridge. The training is ideal for those in the animal sheltering, welfare and control fields, as well as those who are involved in their county animal response team.

      Ranch Hope to benefit from soup sale
            The Central Jersey Auxiliary of Ranch Hope will hold its 24th annual soup sale, lunch and flea market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 14 at the Allentown United Methodist Church, 23 Church St., Allentown. Several varieties of soup will be offered at $5 a quart. The event will be held inside, rain or shine.

            Fran Metzger, recycling coordinator of Monmouth County, will be the featured speaker at the Feb. 26 meeting of the Allentown Garden Club. Metzger will explore how to reduce waste and improve soil conditions by backyard composting.

      Drug Alliance will host bowling event

      Park directory available Feb. 27
            Monmouth County Park System will publish a camp/swim edition of its directory, which lists all of its children's summer camps and swim lessons. The special issue will be available in most county parks Feb. 27, and information will also be available online at www.monmouthcountyparks.com on that date.

      Cloth bag exhibit at Historic Walnford
            "Contained by Cotton, 150 Years of Cloth Bags" will be offered 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 28 through Aug. 2 at Walnford Park in Upper Freehold. The display is located on the second floor of the Waln House. During the 19th and 20th centuries, flour, sugar, animal feed and other products filled cloth bags of many sizes.

      Senior organization seeks new members
            All senior citizens age 55 and over are invited to join the Millstone Senior Citizens Organization. Meetings are held 11 a.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the Millstone Community Center on Stagecoach Road in Millstone. Lunch and bingo are offered at no cost.

      Watershed Assoc. to hold logo contest
            The Crosswicks-Doctors Creek Watershed Association (CDCWA) is opening its logo contest to the general public. The contest period will run through May 15. The logo design should incorporate elements that describe the mission and/or goals of the Watershed Association and/or its adopted Greenway Plan.

            On March 14, the Roosevelt Arts Project will present a solo piano recital with commentary by Alan Mallach, titled "The Dawn of the Romantic Era," at 8 p.m. March 14 at the Roosevelt Borough Hall, located on Route 571. A voluntary contribution of $5 will be collected at the door.

      Television show seeks first-time homebuyers
            "My First Place," a television program for Home & Garden Television (HGTV), is casting in the greater Philadelphia area for its sixth season. High Noon Entertainment, the show's producer, is currently accepting applications and shooting through the summer of 2009.
