Millstone COAH plan flawed for many reasons My husband and I moved to Millstone back in June of 2004. We are both from the New York City area. We chose to buy our first home together in Millstone because a work colleague and friend who also lived here suggested we look at this beautiful and very desirable area. We instantly fell in love with Millstone and in doing our research, quickly learned it was fantastic place to live and raise a family. So you can imagine how concerned and upset we were to recently hear the news about the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) plan, specifically the development planned for Route 33 and Bergen Mills Road, which is up the block from my home. As mentioned in letters to the editor previously written by my neighbors, the plan that was submitted by the town is flawed in many ways, but as previously stated, the biggest problem is the building of a package sewage treatment system. I am quite perplexed how such a plan could have been submitted knowing there is a very good possibility of contaminating the surrounding land and water and jeopardizing people's health. It has been said over and over by many people including a professional engineer and planner at a public town meeting that the output of such a sewage system would, in fact, infiltrate and endanger the environment and water. This plan also affects the entire Millstone area in that it will set a precedent for future disastrous and hazardous development in other areas of the town. I urge Millstone residents to come together and fight this plan, which if passed and implemented will destroy the master plan and rural beauty of our town. Please go to www.preserve33.com if you haven't already to support fighting this cause and maintaining the town of Millstone as we now know it. Christine Gallinaro Millstone |
