      The holiday season is supposed to be a time for family, friends, and festive celebrations, but it is unfortunately also a time when there is a tragic jump in the number of alcohol related highway fatalities each year between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

Association extends thanks to Memory Walk supporters
      I'd like to thank all of the Monmouth County residents and community members who supported our Memory Walk event on Sept. 27. We had a turnout of nearly 1,000 community residents. Currently, over 350,000 New Jersey individuals are affected by Alzheimer's disease, and that number is expected to increase dramatically in the next few decades.

Millstone community gave Scouts tremendous support
      The members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 1767 of Millstone would like to sincerely thank all of those who helped to support our Bronze Award project "Kits of Caring." Thanks to your generosity, we will be delivering 200 kits to Saint Peter's Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in January.

Millstone board member only tells part of the story
      Iam writing to you to voice my total astonishment at the letter to the editor from Michael Novellino, a Planning Board member, in the Dec. 18, 2008, edition of the Examiner. Nowhere in his letter does he even mention the part of the COAH plan that has the residents in Millstone in a rage and that's the sewage treatment plant.

Locals raise money, awareness, hope for cancer victims
      We lost my mother in 2003 to her short-lived battle with ovarian cancer. It was a devastating time for our family. Her diagnosis was stage 4. An immediate hysterectomy and removal of much of her abdominal tissue didn't make the significant difference to save her life. The cancer had already spread to other parts of her body.
