Conservation poster contest now under way
      "DIG IT! The Secrets of Soil" is the theme for the 2009 Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by the Freehold Soil Conservation District and the NJ Association of Conservation Districts. Students in grades 2-12 in Middlesex and Monmouth counties are encouraged to learn about the importance of soil.

      The Allentown afghans, a fundraiser for the Women's Association of Allentown, are once again available for purchase. A new shipment of the requested cranberry afghan is in and there are several in forest green. The price remains at $45.

McDonald's proceed night helps raise cash
      The Millstone Middle School PTA is holding a McDonald's proceed night fundraiser for student programs at McDonald's of Millstone 4-7 p.m. on the second Monday of every month. Go to www.MTMSPTSA.com, print and use the flyer and 20 percent of the total will be given back to the PTSA. Orders can also be taken at the drive-through.

      The Monmouth County Genealogy Society will hold its next meeting Jan. 11 at Eatontown Community/Senior Center, 72 Broad St. The Society will award prizes to the winners of the student essay contest at 1 p.m., hold its meeting at 1:30 p.m., and give a presentation at 2 p.m.

Millstone Warriors to host a comedy night
      The Millstone Warriors Basketball Association will host a Comedy Night starting at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Clarksburg Inn, 465 Stagecoach Road, in the Clarksburg section of Millstone. The adults-only evening will feature laughs, finger foods, a raffle and a cash bar. Tickets are $30 in advance and $30 at the door. Comedian Vic DiBitetto will headline the event.
