Bass, blues readily available

      From Sandy Hook beach to Seaside Park, anglers are finding bass along the surf. Bass and big blues invaded the Navesink this week along with a good mix of weakfish. Bass were taken up to 22 pounds on clam and bunker. Romer Shoals was also a hot spot this week with a few dozen boats working hard for trophy bass.

      In its celebration of the Men's College Cup, the NCAA announced that former Rutgers standout Alexi Lalas has been named a finalist for the 50th Anniversary Team. Lalas is one of 32 former student-athletes and six head coaches who will comprise the voting ballot, which is hosted on NCAA.com.
