Student praises passage of Medicare act

I recently attended an event at the AARP New Jersey State Office regarding the recent passage of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act. All 15 New Jersey delegates voted in favor of the bill, which will help America's seniors, doctors and taxpayers.

While I am not a political junkie, I do know this much: our American health care system is broken, and needs to be fixed immediately. It is inexcusable that five out of every six Americans do not have health insurance. It is horrible to even imagine that 1.3 million New Jersey residents are living without health coverage.

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act is not the perfect remedy for our health care woes, but it is a start. Our New Jersey delegation should be thanked for working in a bipartisan manner to pass this important legislation.

All government officials at the state and national level need to start health care reform immediately. We need to continue to work towards better health care in this great nation, and should not stop until all Americans have access to affordable, quality health insurance.
