Children's choir on its way to Grand Ole Opry

BY JENNIFER KOHLHEPP Staff Writer

ALLENTOWN — A local children's choir will get the opportunity to perform at a venue that has hosted legendary singers like Elvis Presley and Hank Williams Sr.

As a participant in the 2009 Crossroads Children's Chorus Festival, the Community Christian Children's Choir, which consists of singers from Allentown, Hightstown, Hamilton, Howell, Jackson and Robbinsville, will visit Nashville, Tenn., next July 11-17 to perform at the Grand Ole Opry House.

Choir Director Pat Weitz said, "To be invited to this festival is a great honor for this choir and these kids."

Weitz said the 20 members of the choir have been trying to raise funds to defer travel expenses. To kick off their fundraising efforts, they performed on July 16 for customers at Chik-fil-A in the Hamilton Market Place on Route 130.

"We have a lot of work to do but everyone involved in the Community Christian Children's Choir is excited and ready to work hard to get us to Nashville, both musically and financially," Weitz said.

"We hope that everyone who has heard the choir and appreciates their wonderful music will come out to our fundraisers and

really support us now," she said.

The Community Christian Children's Choir is the children's section of the multi-denominational Community Christian Choir. With over 130 members from over 50 congregations in the central New Jersey region, the choir performs benefit concerts for local charities.

The choir is now registering members for all sections. Those ages 5 years old to adult are welcome to join for the 2008-09 seasons.
