      U.F should reconsider extra recreation fees
            The mayor and Borough Council of Allentown recently received some disturbing news via a letter from a concerned Allentown resident. Sent to the mayor, it revealed that the Allentown/Upper Freehold summer camp had set the fees so that Allentown children are charged an extra $10 to attend the camp.

      Fast-food tax is good; vegetarianism is better
            If passed, the proposed "sin tax" on fast food, which is intended to help raise money for local hospitals, really should exclude healthy vegetarian items, including the BK veggie burger. Vegetarian foods are far less likely to land people in the hospital with heart disease, strokes, certain cancers, diabetes and other diet-related diseases.

      Voters should fight cutbacks that affect environment
            Whenever New Jersey has a governmental crisis - and they are commonplace these days - someone finds a way to take it out on environmental protection or on open spaces. Our legislators in Trenton are suffering budgetary angst over whether to cut state expenditures to what taxpayers can afford or to forgo re-election by raising taxes.

      Upper Freehold needs more new faces in township government
            Iread with interest the article in the April 24 edition of The Examiner titled "Two Republicans vie for one nomination in U.F." I became quite annoyed after I read the comments by candidate Robert Frascella. I guess he thinks we've all been sleeping the past year and not following the Upper Freehold master plan revision process.

      Owners warned pet theft on the rise
            Members of the Domestic Companion Animal Council have seen an alarming rise in dog thefts in recent months and warn pet owners to be vigilant. In the first three months of 2008, the American Kennel Club has tracked more than 30 thefts from news and customer reports, versus only 10 for all of 2007.
