Girl Scout proud to have taken part in project Iam a Girl Scout in Troop 1561. We have just completed our Silver Award project, and I would just like to share with you what I learned and how I felt about this project. We did this project for 180 Turning Lives Around, an organization that deals with domestic violence. Before we started our project, we learned all about domestic violence: what it is, how to be aware, how to try and protect yourself from it, etc. I thought this was a great organization and a good theme for our project. I personally like helping people; that's why I became a Girl Scout. In our project we helped many people. For part of our project, we had a mother/ daughter seminar about unhealthy relationships presented by 180 Turning Lives Around. We asked for donations of art supplies to donate to Amanda's Easel, an art program within 180 Turning Lives Around. I found this seminar very informing. Then, for the other half of our project, we had a holiday fair at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. We had handmade crafts, gifts, baked goods, and we even had pictures with a turkey. I had lots of fun that day. As a result of the holiday fair, our troop was able to donate $1,000 worth of art supplies and holiday gifts to 180 Turning Lives Around. We had about five carts loaded with sketch pads, clay, art kits, paint brushes, and a whole lot more. I had a lot of fun doing this project! Tara Daly Millstone |
