Gov. must act on affordable housing crisis
      In a recent public comment, Gov. Jon Corzine indicated that he believes New Jersey does not have adequate funding resources to achieve his campaign pledge of preserving or producing 100,000 affordable homes over 10 years. This should be a matter of great concern to the voters, legislators and public officials of New Jersey.

Flamingos successfully flew Allentown coop
      The Allentown Public Library Association wishes to thank our friends and neighbors for supporting our "Flamingo Flocks" fundraiser. These bright pink birds generated many green dollars for our library's operating expenses. It was great fun to host the flock and we thank you all for taking good care of the birds as they traveled around Allentown and Upper Freehold.

Local farmer urges motorists to slow down on rural roads
      As every farmer knows, it is difficult to lose farm animals to predators even though hawks and coyotes must eat to survive. Yesterday, we were visited again by another type of predator - someone who purposely ran down two of our 4-month-old guinea fowl on a long straight stretch of Olde Noah Hunt Road.

Vegetarian diet will lessen E. coli threat
      Here's yet another reason to eat veggie burgers instead of hamburgers: The Topps Meat Company recently recalled 331,582 pounds of potentially E. coli-contaminated beef that was distributed nationwide. Twenty-one people in eight states, including Connecticut, Maine, and New Jersey, have reported illnesses that may be connected to the tainted meat.
