Ticketed driver on a mission to educate the public

Kathy Chang's January 2007 article on the basic laws of the state of New Jersey is priceless. Very few people are aware that technically you can't have anything hanging from your rearview mirror. Nothing.

I just got nailed for $107 total in Towanda, Pa., and am on an education mission using signs and handouts. In Pennsylvania the state won't admit that you can't have anything on the mirror because that would scare off too many good people. They want you to take a chance and lose.

Is this subject covered in New Jersey's driver's handbook? It is not in Pennsylvania! Neither is that you must have the driver's window operational, you must have a year sticker on your plate and your registration must be signed. Such simple things are not covered. One has to wonder if we can legally pick up a big TV in one's station wagon or sports utility vehicle or be in violation of obstruction of vision through the rear window? If so, how can car manufacturers advertise the total volume of the back of such vehicles?
