      Kids need protection with actions, not words
            At the June 18 Upper Freehold Regional School District school board meeting, it was a pleasure to witness the results of the Dr. Christopher Nagy administration action plan to marginalize the risk of the growing problems related to drug abuse and the real-life concern of gang activity on our doorsteps.

      New Jersey's global-warming law a model for other states
            New Jersey's Meadowlands recently hosted a Live Earth concert, one of many simulcast all over the world. Gov. Jon Corzine seized the opportunity to sign into law the nation's strongest cap on global warming pollution. The new law requires New Jersey to reduce greenhouse gas levels by 20 percent by 2020, and by 80 percent by 2050.

      Domestic violence incidents highlight need to seek help
            Recently, national headlines reported domestic violence incidents that resulted in the murders of two women. One man murdered his wife and young son and then took his own life. The second woman was pregnant when her boyfriend killed her. Such tragedies highlight the importance of getting help and support long before situations escalate to dangerous or even lethal levels.
