The Howell Intramural Hockey Club is now accepting registrations for the fall 2007 season. Registration is open to all children from kindergarten through high school age and has no residency restrictions. Experienced and new players are welcome. Players are placed in one of six divisions by age, not grade. Even though Howell Hockey is a roller hockey club, the game is played five-on-five.
Registration fees may be paid by cash, check or money order. The fee is $90 for one child, $150 for two and $180 for a family. To enroll, one separate $75 check per family, dated Nov. 1, 2007, must be included for the parent-volunteer fee. This check will be destroyed upon completion of fours hours in our participation program. Registration ends on Aug. 11.
In-person registrations will be held at the rinks in Deer Wood Park on Lakewood-Allenwood Road on several dates in July and August. Mailed registration forms must be postmarked by Aug. 11. Note that a form must be completed for each child.
Evaluations for new players and those changing divisions are tentatively scheduled for Aug. 11 and 12. These are not tryouts but an evaluation of basic skating and hockey skills so teams may be as balanced as possible. This date is tentative, since the rinks are being repaired and resurfaced to keep the game as exciting as possible. For further information or to download forms, visit the Web site at www.hihc.cjb.net or call the hot line at (732) 886-8855.
Ashley Higginson, Mike O'Flaherty, Edward Anshar Fosse, Rachel Provost and Ken Walsh were the 2007 recipients of the Freehold Area Running Club's (FARC) Matthew Stuper Scholarship . The scholarships go to deserving FARC members who will be furthering their education. O'Flaherty, a junior at Wesleyan College in West Virginia, is a graduate of Freehold Borough High School. Fosse, a Ranney School grad, will be continuing his education at Gettysburg College. Provost, a graduate of the Peddie School, is headed for Duke University in the fall. Walsh is a Point Pleasant Borough grad who is going to Ramapo.
