The Allentown Grizzlies U-14 boys soccer team will be having open tryouts for the U-14 fall team. Any boys born after 8/31/93 are eligible. There is no residency requirement. The Allentown Xtreme boys U-10 soccer team improved to 4-0 this weekend after two wins. They played at home on Saturday against Alliance FC Nitro. Kevin Primich had the first of his two goals just one minute in. Goal number two came five minutes later. Kevin Pereira finished the first half scoring. All three goals were assisted by Robert Ellerson.
The second half saw Pereira finish off a hat trick with assists by Josh Samuels and Eric Sullivan. The game ended 5-0.
On Sunday, the boys faced an undefeated Peninsula team from Colts Neck. Allentown struck in the first 10 minutes as Will Sjaastadt shot from 20 yards out. Matt DeRisi had the assist. Kevin Primich had goal number two and his third of the weekend.
The first half ended 2-0. Peninsula came out strong in the second half and scored off a corner kick that got by goalie Tom McCarthy. Allentown's defense had to remain strong to hold off several attacks. With just five minutes left in the game, Josh Samuels took a pass from Kevin Pereira and found the net.
The game ended 3-1 and put Allentown in command of first place this year in MOSA action.
The team plays at home Sunday at 3 p.m.
Freehold Raceway will host a series of races in the Mildred Williams International Charity Driving Series May 16. The races will consist entirely of licensed female drivers who will be raising money for The Children's Miracle Network. The drivers will be donating their winnings to the charity, which is an alliance of premier hospitals for children, dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. The charity will be accepting donations from raceway patriots with those donating $2 or more receiving a complimentary Freehold program.
The women drivers will be earning points throughout the series, with the goal of competing in the series finale at the Hippodrome de Montreal on Nov. 4. The series is named in honor of the female harness racing pioneer Mildred Williams.
