In the lone match of the weekend Allentown United U15 girls were hosts to the Glassboro Crushers in a MAPS league game. United got off to a very quick start, just five minutes after the kick-off when Brittany Hodul sent in a high looping shot from 30 yards out. The Crusher goalie was caught off her line and was helpless as the ball sailed over her head and into the back of the net. After that, the game settled down, for a few minutes at least, with both sides competing evenly for possession. Only 15 minutes into the game, it was Hodul, again pushing up to support her midfield players when the ball came back to her from a hasty Crusher clearance. Without any hesitation, she hit the ball high and long, over the keeper and into the net to give United a 2-0 lead. A great start for the home team and unlikely scorer Hodul.

Unfortunately there were still 65 minutes remaining and Coach Amaro Pereira knew that the Glassboro girls, previously unbeaten in their first three matches, would fight back. They did just that, clawing their way back into the game, and pulling level at 2-2 just before the half time whistle blew. After the break the game resumed with both sides playing some tough but very efficient soccer. Play went back and forth with everyone giving their best. Ashley Perritt came close on a couple of occasions with shots that were just wide of the mark. At the other end Shannon Buckley and her defenders were fighting to hold the line, stopping every advance and pushing the ball back upfield.

Brittany Holbrook had a great game; as a utility player she was asked to play up front in the striker position and switching to midfield when needed. She was always a threat to the Crushers, never letting them settle on the ball, constantly chasing and harrying wherever she was on the field.

Everyone's hard work paid off - the game ended in a tie, a fair result for both squads. Next week United has a full schedule with a night game on Thursday under the lights away at Manalapan, followed by a double header on Sunday away at Wall and Colts Neck. Coach Pereira hopes to have Hodul and Ashley Pereira back fit in time to play; both were injured during the Glassboro game.
