Learn pest management strategies and options
      Liz Herbert, a local horticulturist and the owner/operator of Herbaceous Borders Landscaping, will discuss strategies and options of pest management at the Allentown Garden Club's meeting on March 8. Herbert's presentation will focus on the perennial problems of destructive insects, as well as deer, rabbits, moles and voles (a type of rodent), in the home garden.

Community Education spring classes set to begin
      Millstone Township Community Education will begin its spring classes this month. Find out how easy it is to grow orchids when you know how. Local orchid enthusiast and prize-winner, Faye Arnett, will give an overview of different orchid types, and growing tips, March 6 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Millstone Middle School Art Room. Cost is $12.

Teddy Bear donations help ease ambulance rides
      The Allentown Co-op Christian Preschool will hold a Teddy Bear Picnic on March 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at 23 Church St. in Allentown. Activities will include a visit to the bear doctor, story time and a craft. Admission is free. Donations of gently used stuffed animals will be given to the local First Aid Squad for children who have to ride in ambulances.

Live art auction by Ross Galleries slated for March
      The Women's Association of Allentown is hosting a live art auction by Ross Galleries on Saturday, March 24, at the Cream Ridge Golf Club, 181 Route 39. Roosevelt hosts free movie nights at RPS
      The Roosevelt Recreation Department invites all area residents to the Roosevelt Elementary School grounds on School Lane to enjoy free movies on a "big screen" on select Saturday nights at 7 p.m. "How to Eat Fried Worms" will be screened March 10. The film tells the story of an 11-year-old who inadvertently challenges the town bully to eat 10 worms in one day.

4-H announces open house for the public
      Monmouth County 4-H will host an open house for the public, March 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the 4-H office on 4000 Kozloski Road in Freehold. The open house is designed to educate the public on the goals of 4-H, to showcase new clubs, and to gain new members for the 4-H program. 4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.
