Registration to start soon for kindergarten
MILLSTONE - Township tots ready for kindergarten should mark their calendars for March 7 or 8. That's when the Millstone Township School District will hold its kindergarten registration for the 2007-08 school year. Those registering with last names beginning with A-L can register from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7. Those with last names beginning with M-Z can register from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8. Registration will take place at the elementary school on Schoolhouse Road, according to a Millstone Township School District press release. To register, a child must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2007. Registrants must have completed a kindergarten registration packet and must also provide an original birth certificate with a raised state seal along with a copy of that birth certificate. In addition, registrants must provide a copy of their child's or children's immunization record(s) to date and copies of four current proofs of residency in Millstone Township showing the date along with their name and address. For example, utility bills, deeds and driver's licenses can all be used. Parents are responsible for providing copies of the required documents for registration. The school district cannot make copies during registration. Those unable to attend the evening kindergarten registration may preregister their child with forms that are available through the school district's Web site. Registration packets may be returned to the elementary school's main office between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Kindergarten registration forms will not be accepted via mail. The following requirements must be met before a child can begin school. The child must have had one dose of the varicella vaccine or a history of chicken pox. Other health requirements in accordance with state law are a complete physical examination performed after Sept. 1, 2006, which includes proof of immunization, including the four-year DPT and polio boosters, a second MMR and three doses of the Hepatitis B vaccine. This must be recorded on a school form and signed by a physician. Stamps or counter signatures are not accepted. The forms can be obtained in the health office section of the elementary school portion of the school district's Web site. For forms or more information, visit www.millstone.k12.nj.us.
