The Rebel Track Club will hold the 2007 Rebel Indoor Shot Put Series starting Jan. 10. The series will be for four Wednesday evenings starting at 6:30 p.m. The other dates are Jan. 17, Feb. 7 and Feb. 21.

The Thursday Night Men’s Big Screen Bowling League, located at Brunswick Country Lanes, Manalapan, is accepting new teams for its new season that begins in January. The league is for bowlers of all skills, and a team consist of three men. The winter/spring season will begin Jan. 18 and run for 17 weeks. The fee is $20 per week per bowler. Competition starts at 9 p.m. with warm-ups starting at 8:50 p.m.

There is a 14-point system used, in which each team earns points for individual and team score. Additional points are awarded by bowling at certain scores above average. Interested teams or players must call Andy Astartia at (609) 490-9592 or Ralph Ernst at (732) 462-7377 by Jan. 11.

The Millrose Games, the premier indoor track and field meet in the nation, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Feb. 2, headlined by the first appearance in North America of Yelena Isinbayeva, the Olympic and world champion and world record holder in the women’s pole vault. Isinbayeva, who has twice been named World Athlete of the Year, has broken 19 world records and is the first woman to vault over 16 feet (5 meters).

Dozens of other past champions and Millrose legends will be honored that evening at Madison Square Garden as the event celebrates its centennial. Among the great champions of the past are Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Carl Lewis, Eamonn Coghlan, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Sergey Bubka.

The Millrose Games are the oldest continuing sporting event held at the famed Madison Square Garden. Another star-studded field will make the 100th edition memorial. As always, the Wanamaker Miler will be the featured event.

The Jackson-based Battle of Monmouth U7 girls soccer team finished its inaugural season with a perfect 11-0 record. The highlight of the team’s season was a pair of victories in the Manalapan Funfest Tournament. The girls are Sydney Baicher, Lindsay Bathman, Amanda Brown, Maeve Carney, Alexis Casella, Chloe Daum, Julianna Gruosso, Claudia Hanson, Emily Jacoby, Nadyenka McIntosh, Olivia Panko and Veronica Tobing.
