Shore group supports public access to beaches
On behalf of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA), I would like to commend the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for its continued stewardship of the state’s coastal resources.
As your department moves forward to codify public access rules for New Jersey’s Coastal Zone, the ASBPA urges you to work closely with local stakeholders, including county and municipal officials, to develop practical regulations that will encourage access and recreational opportunities for the public. In addition, it is equally important to consider the regional characteristics and unique limitations that each beach and coastal area presents.
We must work together to ensure that public investment in our beaches goes hand in hand with public access to these invaluable resources.
Thank you for your leadership on this issue. We look forward to continuing our close working relationship with you and the state of New Jersey.
