The festival will be held Oct. 14-15 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is available both days; all day, Saturday and after noon on Sunday. Crafters, artisans and antique dealers wanted for participation in the 23rd Annual Fall Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Allentown Business Community Association, in historic Allentown, which will be held October 14-15. A Pet-tacular Event
Necessities for The Heart is sponsoring a pet photo contest. Participants will have a chance to win a Brighton Memory organizer handbag, valued at $150, with their pet's photo on it. Entries will be accepted through Oct. 5 for display and viewer's choice judging at the Allentown Harvest Festival, Oct. 14 and 15. Photos of your pet must be 4x6 inches and in horizontal orientation. Allentown Art Guild slates art show, sale
The Allentown Art Guild will host an Art Show and Sale, Oct. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will be housed in the barn/studio of Jeff Martin Photography, located at 78 North Main Street, Allentown. Held in conjunction with the Allentown Harvest Festival, the Art Guild's event will offer live art demonstrations in painting, textile arts, ceramics and more. Saturday's schedule will include spinning at 10 a.m., weaving at 11 a.m., ceramic pots at 2 p.m. and watercolors at 3 p.m. Sunday's schedule will be altered books at 10 a.m., colored pencils at 11 a.m., mixed media at 2 p.m. and face painting at 3 p.m. Contact Elizabeth Roselius at (609) 259-0455.
Atlantic City bus trip to benefit girls soccer team
Allentown United, the local girls travel soccer team, has organized a Sept. 29 fundraising bus trip to Resorts Hotel and Casino (on the boardwalk), Atlantic City. Plan to arrive at the Upper Freehold Regional Elementary/Middle School parking lot, 27 High Street, Allentown at 9:15 a.m., for a prompt departure time of 10 a.m. A return time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Cost is $30 per person, which includes a $20 credit for slot machines, $8 food coupon, transportation to and from casino and boardwalk, ability to gamble, shop and walk the boardwalk. Halloween fundraiser
for TRF scheduled
The annual Halloween Hunter Pace, a fundraiser for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), will be held Oct. 29 at Assunpink WMA, Upper Freehold on East Branch Road. Teams of 2 or 3 will depart between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. from the log cabin. Refreshments and carrots for the horses will be provided. All riding styles are welcome; helmets required. Fee is $30 per rider. The top two teams closest to the pace time will be awarded ribbons and $100 each. For details, call Pat Jasin (732) 505-9700. The Ladies of St. Joseph
The Ladies of St. Joseph of St. Joseph's Church, Millstone Township will host a Victorian Tea in the church hall from 2-4 p.m., Oct. 1. "Arsenic and Tight Lace" will be presented by costume designer and historian, Barbara Meyer Darlin. This program, designed for women, is intended to be a fun, costumed lecture/demonstration that explores the impact of turn-of-the-century women's fashions on their lives. Refreshments will be served. Attendees are invited to bring their own teacup. The church is located at 91 Stillhouse Road, Millstone Township. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance. Rutgers seeks volunteers for mood change study
Are you age 60 or over and often called a "worrier" by friends and family?
If so, you might be interested in the Rutgers Mood Management Class, offered as part of a research study. The program teaches participants how to make slight changes to thoughts and behaviors, which results in better control over moods and less negative emotion in daily life. Eligible participants receive eight individual sessions free of charge, and will also be paid up to $100 for participating. The study does not involve drugs or medications. The research team seeks adults who are right-handed and able to complete an MRI scan (this is not dangerous and there are no side effects). For more information, call (732) 445-1413.
