Freehold Raceway will host a Thoroughbred Handicapping Contest on Aug. 30. The contest will be restricted to 100 entrants and will consist of races from Monmouth Park, Delaware, Saratoga, Ellis, Arlington and Del Mar. The contest format will consist of $10 a win and place wagers with contestants wagering a minimum of 10 races. Contestants may bet all 12 in they choose. Entry cost is $350 of which $150 is the entry fee that goes toward prize money, and the remaining $200 will be used for a betting stake. Contestants will keep all parimimutuel winners, and prize money will be paid out to the five handicappers with the highest bankrolls. First place is 50 percent of the prize money followed by 25 percent for second, 12 percent for third, 8 percent for fourth and 5 percent for fifth.

The winner will gain entry to the 2007 Horseplay World Series in Las Vegas.

Teams can sign up now for the Garden State Baseball League's Fall Wood Bat Tournament of Champions that will be held Oct. 21 and 22. Teams are guaranteed three to four games. Teams that register early (more than 30 days before the tournament) will receive a free bat.
