Camp for kids offers Cricket, Rugby and more

Roosevelt's recreation department will partner with the U.S. Sports Institute, which is at the forefront of providing summer camps for boys and girls ages 5-14 of all abilities, to give children the unique opportunity to experience 15 different sports from around the world. Children can learn how to bowl a Cricket ball, play Rugby, shoot hoops and score plenty of goals in a variety of sports from around the world. All activities and games will take place in a positive low pressure educational environment under the guidance of our qualified coaches who are chosen for their ability to inspire, motivate and encourage campers. Children can expect a fun packed week in which they will not only further develop their sporting capabilities but develop the interpersonal and teamwork qualities that come with it. The program in Roosevelt for 2006 will take place at the Roosevelt Public School from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2. It will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for 5-7 year-olds. Italian American Assoc. barbecue set for Aug. 27

The Italian American Association of Monmouth County, Freehold, will hold its second annual family barbecue Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold Township.

The cost is $20, $10 for children ages 3-12, and free for children age 2 and younger. The menu will include chicken, sausage with peppers, ribs, burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, various salads, and desserts. Activities include baseball, bocce, face painting, sand art, and other activities.

Writer's Exchange will present annual showcase

Members of The Writer's Exchange of Barnes & Noble at Marketfair, located on Route One, Princeton, will present their annual showcase of original work, both published and unpublished. The reading is directed by author Ed Leefeldt. The public is invited to attend. The event is free and registration is not required. Roosevelt continues

popular yoga program

The Roosevelt Recreation Department is continuing its popular yoga program at Roosevelt Public School. Classes are under the instruction of Kym Kulp, a certified yoga instructor who also teaches at The Peddie School and throughout the area. While yoga mats will be provided, participants are welcome to bring their own. Classes are offered 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sept. 26. The cost of the program is $10 per session. Walk-ins are welcome.

Allentown H.S. to hold 20-year reunion Nov. 4

The Allentown High School class of '86 will hold its 20-year reunion from 7-11 p.m. on Nov. 4 at Martell's Tiki Bar, Point Pleasant. Tickets are $75 per person and must be ordered by Sept. 8. Fall Harvest Festival

Crafters, artisans and antique dealers wanted for participation in the 23rd Annual Fall Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Allentown Business Community Association, in historic Allentown, which will be held Oct. 14-15.

Halloween fundraiser

The annual Halloween Hunter Pace, a fundraiser for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), will be held Oct. 29 at Assunpink WMA, Upper Freehold on East Branch Road. Teams of 2 or 3 will depart between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. from the log cabin. Refreshments and carrots for the horses will be provided. All riding styles are welcome; helmets required. Fee is $30 per rider. The top two teams closest to the pace time will be awarded ribbons and $100 each. For details, call Pat Jasin (732) 505-9700. The TRF is a horse organization, founded in the U.S. in 1982. They rescue ex-racehorses from slaughter and rehabilitate them for adoption. www.trfinc.org.

Allentown to host 'Mane' Street Horse Parade

In Celebration of Allentown's 300th Anniversary, Upper Freehold's Community Day and in recognition of New Jersey's Day of the Horse, Allentown will hold the Mane Street Horse Parade at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 16. Community Day slated in Upper Freehold Twp.

Upper Freehold Township will sponsor its annual Community Day celebration on Sept. 16, beginning at 2 p.m. in Byron Johnson Park on Ellisdale Road. The rain date for the event is Sept. 17. Admission is free. There will be inflatable rides, games, pony rides, a food court, hay rides, a magic show, a pie- eating contest, door prizes, a paintball range, and much more for the entire family.

There will also be a live performance by The Party Dolls from 6-8 p.m. A spectacular fireworks display at dusk will conclude the festivities. For more information, call: (609) 758-7738.
