Adopt-A-Horse Day Aug. 6 at Horse Park
The Standardbred Retirement Foundation's (SRF) Annual Adopt-A-Horse Day will be held in conjunction with the 18th Festival of Horses at the Horse Park of New Jersey, Route 524, Upper Freehold, on Aug. 6. Many of the foundation's standardbreds that are available for adoption will be showcased at the festival. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and introduce the horses to interested adopters. "This is a great opportunity for approved adopters and people who may be interested in this wonderful breed of horse to get a close-up look at some of our horses "strutting their stuff," said Gen Sullivan, SRF adoption coordinator. "The breed is known for its versatility and super temperament, and many of our horses have gone on to become great on the trail, in jumping, therapeutic riding, English or Western, just about any discipline you can imagine." The festival is a fun day of demonstrations of all breeds of horses, and will include a parade of those available from the SRF. Those wishing to adopt a horse and take it home the day of the festival should get prior approval by filling out an application at the SRF Web site, www.adoptahorse.org, by July 25. The SRF is an award-winning private, nonprofit organization that cares for, rehabilitates and then finds homes for standardbred racehorses when they are no longer competitive. The organization has placed more than 2,000 adoptions to date For more information, visit the Web site or call (732) 462-8773.
