Livestock show to feature 100-plus competitors

In its fifth year, the Stars and Stripes will host a 13-species livestock show July 9 at the Horse Park of New Jersey, Upper Freehold Township. The park features 147 acres of countryside and a 100-by-300-foot indoor arena. Fostering the atmosphere of an old country fair, families are welcome to picnic or participate in the Jersey Fresh Fest games, including a corn-shucking contest and pitching horseshoes.

The featured animal this year is the meat goat. Some of the top animals in the nation have registered to exhibit, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the dairy goat competition. Beef, dairy cattle, meat and fiber goats, poultry, waterfowl, sheep and small animals will be exhibited by more than 100 competitors. Free watermelon will cap off the afternoon. The public is welcome, and admission is free. For more information, call Robin Bruins at (609) 259-2347.
