Residents urged to come out and support events
I am the Alliance Coordinator for the Upper Freehold/Allentown Municipal Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. We are sponsoring a car show on July 28, a golf outing on July 26 and a Motor Cycle Cruise Night on July 19. All proceeds that we collect will benefit drug prevention programs in the community.
We are currently working on some new programs for the summer and the first part of the new school year. Some prevention programs we are doing include sending two Life Savers, which are members of a drug-free club in the high school, to a sleep-away camp called the Lindsey Myer Institute for a week. There, they will learn about alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention and how to get others involved with their club in the high school. We are also sending 30 other Life Savers for an annual retreat. There, they will develop even stronger prevention skills, learn about the new drug trends, team work, and other important life skills to remain drug-free.
We are discussing having parent workshops, the Fifteen Minute Child Break, which is sponsored by Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey, and a town hall meeting on underage drinking and host liability. We are looking forward to working in both communities of Upper Freehold and Allentown.
We have to raise over $10,000 each year in order to keep our grant. We are only halfway there. Please come out to both our drug prevention and fundraiser programs and support your community. Let the community know that you care. If you have any questions please contact me.
