      Classes on small business, jewelry, flowers, boating

      Millstone Community Education is offering the following classes and activities:

      "Secrets to Small Business Success" will be presented by Susan Koval, a certified business coach with more than 20 years of experience, 6:30-9:30 p.m. May 1 and 15 at the middle school library. The fee is $65. Design and create a magnetic lariat necklace, 7-9 p.m. May 1 at the middle school art room. The fee is $8, plus $20 for supplies. Florist Debbie Personnette, owner of Bloomers & Things, Allentown, will demonstrate flower arrangements 7-9 p.m. May 3 at the elementary school art room. The fee is $9. A basic safe boating and personal water craft class for all ages will be offered 7-10 p.m. May 10 and 11, or June 19 and 20, at the middle school. The fee is $60. A craft class on decorative coasters will be taught by Cathy Duffy, Stamp-in Up instructor, 7:30-9 p.m. May 16 at the middle school. The fee is $20.       'History in motion'

      at Historic Walnford

      Visitors to the Monmouth County Park System's Historic Walnford, Upper Freehold Township, can experience the ups and downs, rumble and shake of the park's 19th century gristmill on weekends through Nov. 26. During these free demonstrations, visitors will see how corn was processed in the late 1800s.

      available in Allentown

      In celebration of Allentown's 300th year and Upper Freehold's 275th year anniversaries in 2006, the Allentown-Upper Freehold Historical Society has reprinted Randall Gabrielan's Allentown and Upper Freehold Township historical image book, originally published in 2001. The books are available for $20 each at the Allentown Library, Allentown Barber Shop, Down Home Country, Hoffmann's Bakery, Necessities for the Heart and Off the Wall. Proceeds from the book benefit the Historical Society.

      Golf outing, raffles to benefit AHS golf team

      On April 29 at 1:30 p.m., the Allentown High School boys golf team will hold a fundraising golf outing. The cost is $100 per golfer. The event is in association with the Allentown High School Parents Golf Association (AHSPGA). Those who do not play golf can still support the team by purchasing raffle tickets, with prizes valued at over $1,000, and with chances for the super 50/25/25 raffle. All tickets cost $10 each.       Poinsett will be

      parade's grand marshal

      The Lions Club of Allentown announced that Elizabeth Poinsett has been selected to be the grand marshal of the 53rd Allentown Memorial Day parade, to be held May 29.

      Poinsett was born in Omaha, Neb., moved to West Trenton at the age of 8 and resettled in the Allentown/Upper Freehold area in 1984.

      She is a program development specialist for the N.J. Department of Medical Assistance and Health Services. She has served or is currently serving on the Allentown Planning/Zoning Board of Adjustment; Allentown Environmental Commission; Allentown-Upper Freehold Historical Society; Friends of the Old Yellow Meeting House Association; Allentown Historic and Review Commission; Crosswicks/Doctors Creek Greenway Regional Planning Group; and the Monmouth County Historical Commission.

      In 2002, Poinsett was the recipient of the Jefferson Award, a national award presented to individuals who have shown extraordinary generosity in giving their time and talents for the betterment of the community.

      Roosevelt Recreation offers yoga at RPS

      The Borough of Roosevelt Recreation Department will continue its yoga program this spring with classes at Roosevelt Public School. Kym Kulp, a certified yoga instructor who teaches at The Peddie School, instructs the classes.

      Classes take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with remaining classes on April 25 and May 2 and 9. Walk-ins are welcome.

      Roosevelt students can attend Millstone camp

      The Roosevelt Recreation Department has partnered with Millstone Township to offer an opportunity for Roosevelt students to participate in the Millstone Recreation Summer Camp at Millstone Elementary School.

      The cost per child for the five-week program is $350 if paid by May 1. Optional trips are offered each day for an additional cost. Before- and after-camp hours are also available at an additional cost.

      Parenting, photo class offered in Millstone

      Millstone Community Education is offering an editing digital photos class April 22 and 29, 10 a.m. to noon; fee: $64. And, "Parenting Your Adolescent Son," April 25, 7:30-9:30 p.m.; fee $25.

      Comedy night to benefit local Little League

      The Millstone-Roosevelt Little League will sponsor a comedy night 7-11:30 p.m. April 22 at the Clarksburg Inn, Route 524/Stagecoach Road, Millstone.

      The fund-raiser will feature two professional comics; a gift basket auction featuring items with values from $50 to $1,000, including Direct TV packages and sports tickets; free hors d'oeuvres; and a cash bar. The donation is $20, and tickets will be available at the door.

      CentraState Auxiliaries offering scholarships

      The CentraState Associated Auxiliaries Scholarship Program will offer three scholarships this year to community volunteers. Two will be given to graduating high school seniors pursuing a career in the health care field, and the third scholarship will be awarded to an adult returning to college to pursue a career in health care. Each scholarship will be in the amount of $500.

      Scholarship applications may be obtained from high school guidance departments or from the CentraState Healthcare Foundation office by calling (732) 294-7030. Applications must be submitted to Valerie MacPhee, MTHA, P.O. Box 32, Perrineville 08535.

      All applicants must submit the application form along with transcripts (for high school seniors), two letters of recommendation (one must be from the person or organization for whom the applicant volunteers), and the completed essay requirement. The closing date for receipt of applications is April 28.

      The CentraState Associated Auxiliaries consists of volunteers who work for the benefit of CentraState Healthcare System. The Associated Auxiliaries are: Covered Bridge Auxiliary, Freehold Borough and Township Auxiliary, Manalapan/English-town/Marlboro Auxiliary, Millstone Township Auxiliary and The Villages Auxiliary.

      Vendors sought for Freedom Fest

      This year's Freedom Fest will take place July 11-15 at the Upper Freehold Regional School grounds. The event will feature rides by Amusements of America, games, food, live entertainment nightly, craft vendors and special events. Craft vendors interested in joining the Freedom Fest should contact David Joye at (609) 259-8299.

      Hadassah slates afternoon of Gershwin music

      The Roosevelt/East Windsor Chapter of Hadassah will host an afternoon of music composed by the Gershwin brothers, presented by Ted Ott and Michael Karnacky of Mercer County Community College and WWFM 89.1, at 1:30 p.m. April 23 at the Hickory Corner Library, Hickory Corner Road, East Windsor. The program is free.

      Little Hearts Day Camp to hold open house

      Little Hearts Day Camp and Roosevelt Community Nursery School will hold an Open House 2-4 p.m. April 23rd at the new location at 2 School Lane, Roosevelt.
