Former councilwoman responds to recent stories

There are several errors in recent stories. Two of them are with regard to my tenure as a councilwoman. Jane Meggitt reported that I served one year on the Borough Council, when I served a full three-year term. In a subsequent article, Councilman Michael Hamilton implied that I left the council because I knew that I would have a conflict, due to my involvement with the synagogue, and that the yeshiva was part of this conflict. Nothing could be further from the truth.

When I decided not to run for re-election, there was not even an inkling that a yeshiva was on the horizon. Yes, the synagogue board was trying to make sure that the synagogue survived, but my time on the council neither hindered me nor caused me a conflict in this quest.

Hamilton knows, through his attendance at several fundraisers, that I do volunteer work for a number of organizations, including being in line for the presidency of the Zonta Club of Trenton/Mercer. These organizations, along with my full-time employment, were among the reasons I chose not to run again.

However, truth be told, chief among the reasons not to run again was that the council had a difficult time accomplishing things and moving processes forward. I left the council because we were never going to get some issues resolved.

Revisionist history is being written, such as giving all the credit for the “good water situation” to former Councilman Jeff Hunt and none to Toby Moore, whose diligent and thoughtful evaluation of the red water situation finally brought a resolution. Much of this revisionist history lays blame on Mayor Neil Marko, whose downfall was his zeal to move some of these issues off the table by taking them into his own hands. He continues to be blamed for things over which he had no control.
