Cub Scouts proud to serve twp.

ALLENTOWN — A few local cubs emerged from winter hibernation this month to clean up Farmer Park.

Den 6 Webelos Cub Scouts, Pack 180, of Allentown, cleaned up the Lakeview Drive park in Allentown on Jan. 7, a service project for their Citizen Badge.

Cub Scout leaders Steve Stein and Jay Kostman, both of Upper Freehold Township, said the fourth-graders are proud of their service work.

Michael Fritsky, Alexander Reilly, Jack Mottram, Aidan Pignataro, Stephen Kostman, Jake Stein, Thomas Heideman and Brian Tobi all picked up litter and other debris in an effort to help keep the local park beautiful for their friends and neighbors, according to Stein.

Sponsored by the Allentown United Methodist Church, located on Church Street, the boys are all attempting to earn the Webelos Cub Scout rank. The park project helped them earn their Citizen Badge, according to Stein.

Webelos dens are for boys who have completed third grade, or who have reached age 10. The Webelos den in Allentown is currently focusing on learning about community, and the Citizen Badge is part of their requirements in advancing to the next level of scouting, according to Stein.

The Cub Scout advancement program is designed to encourage boys’ interests in a natural way, according to the Boy Scouts of America Web site.

The Boy Scouts of America Web site calls scouting “fun with a purpose” because apart from the fun and the excitement, it aims to help boys grow into good citizens who are strong in character and personally fit.
