Community Bulletin Board
The Barnegat Historical Society is seeking information about Barnegat’s seaman, their ships and shipbuilding.
Ship models or paintings of Barnegat ships — especially sloops and two- or three-masted schooners, which would represent ships built in Barnegat — and other memorabilia and photos would be welcome. The new information may be included in a booklet that is currently being developed.
The historical society is planning a house tour for Dec. 3 that will include homes of Barnegat sea captains, the Masonic Hall and Mariners Lodge. A nautical arts exhibit and an afternoon concert are also being planned as part of the day’s festivities.
According to a press release from the historical society, Barnegat’s maritime era lasted nearly 100 years and yet little detail is known. Anyone who has items or information on the subject is asked to call Mike Costaris at (609) 698-7643.
