Allentown Fall Harvest Festival Oct. 8 and 9

Allentown Fall Harvest Festival will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 9. in the business district located on South Main and Church streets in Allentown. Sponsored by the Allentown Business Community Association, the festival will feature artisans and crafters, food, vendors, games, classic cars and hot rods, a Civil War camp at Heritage Park, petting zoo, moonwalk and balloon bounce, stories, music, live entertainment and more. U.F. Republican Club slates fundraiser dinner

The Republican Club of Upper Freehold will hold a campaign fundraiser dinner Oct. 15 at the Gamblers Ridge Golf Course in Cream Ridge, according to club President Gerald Nathanson.

Dinner is $40 per person. Checks should be made payable to UFT Republican Club and mailed to Tom Battaglia, Treasurer, P.O. Box 542, Allentown 08501.

Dr. Andrew Weil to visit Monmouth County

Dr. Andrew Weil, an expert on health and well-being, will appear at the Garden Manor in Aberdeen Oct. 26 to discuss his forthcoming book, “Healthy Aging: A Lifelong Guide to Your Physical and Spiritual Well-Being,” to be published in the fall.

The event, which will be presented in the form of a town hall meeting, is the first of six nationwide events sponsored by Friends’ Health Connection and Origins Natural Resources. The New Jersey appearance is also supported by Whole Foods Market and CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.

Weil will be interviewed on stage, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. Weil will also comment on current medical studies and discuss the most promising areas of future research.

Advance tickets cost $38 and include a complimentary copy of Weil’s new book (which will retail for $28).

The town hall meeting will begin at 7 p.m., and the event will be preceded by a health and information fair from 6-7 p.m. that will spotlight a variety of natural products and will also offer health information provided by representatives of CentraState Medical Center.

Free outdoor movies

slated in Roosevelt

The Roosevelt Recreation Department will offer a free outdoor movie at the Roosevelt Public School amphitheater. Community members are invited to bring blankets and chairs to see “Beetlejuice” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 8. In the event of rain, the movie will be indoors at the school.

Roosevelt Rec. offers

after-school theater class

The Roosevelt Recreation Department is sponsoring an after-school theater program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The workshop, “Playing Around With Theatre,” will offer students an opportunity to participate in theater games, movement, and arts activities as they learn about improvisation and character development. Classes will be held from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Oct. 20, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 1, 8 and 15. The cost is $75. Roosevelt Recreation is also looking for ideas for new programs, activities and trips.
