      Auditions

      The Strand Theater, Lakewood, will hold auditions for the November production of “Scrooge: The Musical” Oct. 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. at the theater, 400 Clifton Ave. Callbacks will be held Oct. 12. Those auditioning should come prepared to sing 16 bars of a show tune (no tapes or CDs) and be ready to dance. Details: (732) 367-7789.

      The South Street Players will hold auditions for “The Glass Menagerie” Oct. 10, 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. at the International Flair Salon, 111 Schanck Road, Freehold Township. Needed are two males, early to late 30s, and two females, one late 40s to 60 and one late 20s, with readings from the script. Performance dates are Jan. 13-29. Details: (732) 462-4329.

      Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre will hold auditions for “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” and The Who’s “Tommy.” Auditions will be held on the college’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

      Auditions for “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” to be presented by Maurer Productions OnStage, will be held Oct. 15 and 16 from noon to 6 p.m. each day. Available roles are Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, Sally and Snoopy. Auditioners must be age 18 or older. Prior to the audition, candidates should visit the Web site www.CharlieBrownOnStage.com to download and print a copy of the audition packet; packets are also available at Kelsey Theatre. Auditioners will be asked to prepare a monologue from the packet as well as a song from the show. They may also be asked to do a cold reading from the script.       Auditions for “Tommy,” to be presented by Cheng/Ferrara Productions and The Pennington Players, will be held Oct. 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cast includes eight males and six females, ages 16 and up, and two children. Performers should have excellent stage presence and energy and must be competent singers capable of learning difficult harmony parts. Dancing ability is a strong plus. Auditioners will be asked to perform an up-tempo song from musical theater and should bring the sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. There are nearly 40 characters; with the exception of a few principals, most actors will play many roles. Appointments are required.       Brick Community Players will hold auditions for Sondheim’s “Company” Oct. 16 and 30 at 3 p.m. at the Brick Township Civic Center, 270 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick. Needed are strong singers for eight female and six male roles, ages 21-60. Those auditioning should bring a prepared song with accompaniment or sheet music.       Women of Song, a female vocal group, is seeking singers with good sight-reading skills. The group performs a variety of music. Rehearsals are held Friday mornings in the Monmouth County area. Details: Randy Minkin, (732) 787-1697.

      The Heart of New Jersey Chorus, Sweet Adelines International, is seeking new members. There are openings in all voice parts. The chorus recently returned from its annual competition and received the Most Improved Chorus award as well as ribbons for second place in the Small Chorus category. The chorus meets at the Frank Defino School in Marlboro.
