The Allentown United U-13 girls travel soccer team participated in the third annual Beach Blast soccer tournament on the beaches of Wildwood. This tournament featured over 520 teams from N.J., Pa., N.Y., Md., Conn., Va. and Del. Allentown divided its squad in to two teams. The first team was Allentown United Red. United came out on Saturday morning after camping on the beach and won its first game 4-0 vs. a team from Pa. Later in the afternoon they beat a team from South Jersey, 3-0, and qualified for the semifinals on Sunday. United came out strong once again on Sunday and beat a team from Pa., 3-0, and qualified for the finals. The finals saw a very close match as United got a goal from Dawn Taylor with just five minutes to go in the game to give United a 1-0 win and the tournament trophy. Diana Braun, who played goalie for both teams, did not allow a single goal for this squad. Members of the Allentown United Red team were Dawn Taylor, Diana Braun, Ashley Pereira, Brittany Hodul, Brittany Holbrook, Brittany Worrall, Amanda Kyle and Danielle Turner.
The second squad was the Allentown United White. Again with Diana Braun in goal, United beat a team from Pa., 3-0, in their first game. Later in the morning, United beat the TBAA Jags, 2-1, to send them through the semifinals on Sunday. United made it to the finals with a 4-0 win over a team from south Jersey. In the championship game, United faced a very good team from Pa. and both teams played excellent soccer. With the game going back and forth, United got a goal from Heather Dey with just three minutes to go in the game to give them a 1-0 win. Members of the Allentown United White were Shelby Doll, Diana Braun, Kelly Bailey, Samantha Myers, Katie Mottola, Angelique Calise, Meghan Volnoski, Heather Dey and Shannon Buckley. Tournament MVP was goalie Diana Braun. She played in all eight games and allowed one goal. The parents and players all camped out on the beach and enjoyed the water and amusement parks during the day and evenings.
The New Jersey Wildcats W-League women’s soccer team will be holding six weeks of Wildcats Camp this summer. The camps will be held on the following dates at these locations: July 11 to 15 —White Oak Park, Branchburg; July 18 to 22 — Crockett Middle School, Hamilton; July 25 to 29 — West Windsor Community Park; Aug. 1 to 5 — Spruce Street Field, Freehold; August 8 to 12 — North Brunswick High School; and Aug. 15 to 19 — Grice Middle School, Hamilton.
Wildcats Camp is presented by the Serie A Soccer Academy and run under the direction of Wildcats head coach Charlie Naimo. Wildcats Camp features Wildcats stars such as Olympic gold medalists Heather O’Reilly, Cat Reddick, and Lindsay Tarpley. Wildcats Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day and the cost of each camp is $195.
