Charles Kromann, of Millstone and a senior at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, captured the Palamountain Invitational Golf Tournament at the MacGregor Golf Club, shooting a two-day total of one-under par (73-70-143), four shots better than the second-place finisher. Skidmore won the tournament by seven strokes ahead of St. Lawrence College. The two-day tournament occurred at Saratoga State Park and MacGregor Golf Clubs. This is Kromann’s second tournament win, in addition he had 10 Top-Five and 16 Top-10 finishes. He led his team to the fourth division title this year as captain and has been an integral part for the four years that they have captured this distinction. Kromann was named honorable mention All-American last year, and is a graduate of the Ranney School in Tinton Falls, and a member of the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Farmingdale.
The Mercer Chief Mite A hockey team ended its season by bringing home the Gold medal from the Lake Placed, NY, Can/Am Hockey Tournament, March 24-27. The Chiefs went undefeated against the Somerville Ice Cats from Massachusetts, the Junior Phantoms from New Jersey, the Haverford hawks from Pennsylvania and the Frederick Fury from Maryland. Every player on the Mite team scored at least one goal and the goalie enjoyed one shutout. This tournament ends a very successful season for this group of 8- and 9-year-olds, with a record of 51-15-4. The Chiefs won the NJYHL Southern Division with a 14-0 mark. The players are Zachary Skop, Max Skop, Beuk Forrest, Christopher Golding, Tristan Tilghman, Ross Colton, Adam Friedman, Eric Hildebrand, Gregg Olsson, Keith Allen and Bobby Wurster. The coaches are Andy Skop and Rol Olsson.
In addition, Tristan Tilghman, of Cream Ridge, recently won a $1,000 hockey camp scholarship to Lake Placid. Entrants were asked to submit a 500-word essay, complete with references from teachers and coaches, pictures and academic records to be eligible. Tristan is a second-grade student at Upper Freehold Regional School and worked countless hours preparing his essay. Tristan’s essay was chosen from 37 entries in the Mite level. He will receive one week at the Can/Am hockey camp of his choice.
