Angelo A. Tomasello

Mr. Tomasello, 78, of Whiting, died April 20 at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident prior to moving to Whiting nine years ago. He was a self-employed ceramic tile contractor at Tomasello Brothers, Matawan, retiring in 1995. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an assistant with Boy Scout Troop 232, Matawan. He was a past member of St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus, Keyport, and the Matawan Italian Club. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathryn Borowsky Tomasello of Whiting; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Donna Tomasello of Manalapan, Anthony Tomasello of Wall, and John and Fran Tomasello of Marlboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maryann and Arnold Zimmerman of Ocean, and Diane and Chet Scalzo of Matawan; three brothers, Humbert Tomasello of Florida, Victor Tomasello of Matawan, and Vincent Tomasello of Connecticut; a sister, Carmela Dzwil of Matawan; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, with interment at the church’s cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

E. Zita Todd

Mrs. Todd, 81, of Freehold, died April 18 at Madison Center, Old Bridge. Born in Trenton, she had lived in Freehold for more than 30 years. Prior to retiring, she was a chef for many years at the American Hotel, Freehold. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda S. and Gilles Baillargeon of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Krajcsovics of Hamilton Township; a sister, Ethel Kite, also of Hamilton Township; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Associated Humane Societies, 2960 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls 07753.

Nancy Giovenco Mauriello

Mrs. Mauriello, 83, of Brick, died April 20 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Born in Kearny, she had resided in the Morgan section of Sayreville for 36 years before moving to Brick two years ago. Mrs. Mauriello was predeceased in December 2003 by her husband, Louis N. Mauriello. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Mauriello of Brick, and Rosemarie and Tom Pollando of Sayreville; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kathleen Mauriello of North Brunswick; a sister, Anita Bressen of Toms River; three brothers, Richard Giovenco of Caldwell, Rudy Giovenco of Howell and George Giovenco of Sayreville; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Funeral services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville, followed by a Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy. Burial took place at Christ Church Cemetery, also South Amboy.

William Lopatin

Mr. Lopatin, 94, of Freehold Township, died April 21 at home. Born in Russia, he had resided in the Freehold area since 1920. Prior to retiring, he was a self-employed building contractor for Lopatin Construction. At 81 years old, he earned a master’s degree from Monmouth College (now University), West Long Branch. A World War II Air Force veteran, he flew in 72 missions and was honored by the French veterans of World War II with a medal for flying on D-Day. He was a charter member of both the Jewish War Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4374, Freehold, as well as a member of the Optimist Club in the Freehold area. He served on the Freehold Borough Planning Board and as a zoning officer for the borough, for which he was also a building inspector. In addition, he was a member of the Freehold Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris fellow; and a member of the Board of Directors at Freehold Area Hospital (now CentraState Medical Center), Freehold Township, where he served as a charter member as well on its Board of Trustees. Mr. Lopatin was predeceased by his first wife, Selma, in 1985; and two daughters, Ruth Lapin in 2001 and Lynn Seidler in 2004. Surviving are his wife, Joan; a son-in-law, Lee Seidler of Connecticut; a sister, Jenny Blond of Maryland; a granddaughter, Laurie Seidler-Cinquini; and a great-grandson, Isaac Cinquini. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Workman’s Circle Cemetery, Branch No. 606, Freehold Township.
