Nominations sought for ‘unsung hero’ award
The Russell Berrie Foundation, Mahwah, announced that nominations for the 2005 Russ Berrie Award for Making a Difference will be accepted through Feb. 25, with awards presented in June at Ramapo College of New Jersey, Mahwah.
The awards range up to $50,000 and are bestowed on New Jerseyans who have made a significant difference in their community — the “unsung heroes.” The program was established in 1996 by the last Russ Berrie, founder of Russ Berrie and Co. Inc., Oakland, and by Ramapo College.
Up to 20 individuals will be recognized. The foundation will provide monetary awards of up to $50,000, $35,000 and $25,000, and runner-up grants of $2,500 each. Nominees will be reviewed by an advisory board composed of business leaders and professionals. Nominations are submitted by individuals, community groups, houses of worship, educators, and other groups.
