Children’s activities to be featured at fund-raiser
The Freehold Optimist Club, of which Garden State Flower Market owner Ralph Petrellese is a member, is a supporter of Camp Quality, which is free to the children and their families.
The event will feature an assortment of food from local vendors, plenty of activities for children of all ages, arts and crafts activities, photos with Santa, a choir performing holiday songs, a dance troupe performance, and radio station 105.7 The Hawk on Sunday to announce the grand prize raffle of a dozen roses every week until Valentine’s Day. There will also be a silent auction. There is no admission charge.
The Garden State Flower Market is located at 3440 Route 9 south in Freehold Township.
Craig House program to
focus on holiday customs
The Craig House, Freehold Township, will present a program on how America’s holiday traditions began.
Anyone who has wondered why Christmas is celebrated on Dec. 25, which historical figure evolved into Santa Claus, or what artist created the image of that jolly old man with the white beard and red suit who delivers gifts to children, is invited to come to the Craig House on Dec. 5 from 1-4 p.m. and hear the answers to these holiday-related questions.
Original Civil War-era Christmas editions of Harper’s Weekly illustrated by Thomas Nast will be on display.
The Craig House is the restored and furnished 18th-century farmhouse that was the home of John and Ann Craig during the 1778 Battle of Monmouth. The program is free, and refreshments will be served. Further information is available by calling Monmouth Battlefield State Park, (732) 462-9616.
